The programme of major works to refurbish the deck of Galafoot Bridge on the A6091 has now been confirmed. Works to be carried out include resurfacing of the bridge’s carriageway and footpaths and renewal of waterproofing. Concrete repairs will be completed as required following removal of the existing waterproofing, and the bridge parapets will be improved. Traffic management will include a six to ten-week closure to eastbound traffic, a series of full overnight bridge closures, off-peak temporary traffic lights, and a partial closure of the Boleside Road car park.

We make sure the carriageways are safe and sound, but there’s a lot more to what we do than that. We also take care of grass cutting and weed control, road lighting and traffic signal maintenance, and we keep the signs clean to make sure you’ll always know where you’re going.

We’re committed to safety, so we undertake structural inspections of roads and bridges, gritting and ploughing in winter, emptying gullies and repairing safety barriers, and we approve the movements of abnormal loads around the roads network.

BEAR is always working hard to create a sustainable, environmentally friendly infrastructure for the future. We also design and supervise improvements to carriageways and authorise the opening of new roads.

We’re dedicated to providing a first-rate service and so we’re always busy, taking care of everything so you can get from A to B as safely and smoothly as possible.
